The clock mechanism. The clock, with its blue face on the tower, was installed in 1897 to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. It was made, and is still maintained by, the firm of Smith of Derby (the plaque on it reads "J. Smith and Sons. Midland Steam Clock Works, Derby").
